Schools and Sonaspray "fc"...

Taken from the April 1998 issue of School Planning & Management

Schools often contend with the problem of asbestos and its removal, so when officials at Escanaba Area Public High School, Escanaba MI, prepared to remove the school's original spray insulation containing asbestos, they took precautionary steps to ensure that the replacement insulation created a clean, safe environment. Brian Frantl, president of Frantl Industries, worked closely with the project architect and specified Houston-based International Cellulose Corp.'s acoustic spray insulation system, SonaSpray "fc."

"When removing asbestos, there is a potential for contaminants to be left behind," explains Frantl. "We used a kilz primer to stop any bleedthrough or staining and to provide a better substrate. We then applied SonaSpray "fc" for an aesthetically pleasing finish."

SonaSpray "fc" is a spray-applied acoustical texture that has been designed for a wide range of projects. It provides an attractive, high-performance solution to acoustical objectives in both new construction and renovation projects. SonaSpray "fc" conforms to any surface configuration and bonds to virtually all common construction materials, including sheet rock, plaster, wood, metal and concrete. Combined with the patented adhesive, it provides a strong, durable and resilient surface that resists impact and abrasions without the cracking or spalling that are typical to cementitious or plaster-based materials.

For projects requiring superior acoustic quality, SonaSpray "fc" offers an exceptional noise reduction coefficient (NRC) of 0.65 with a typical 1/2 inch installation. At its maximum recommended thickness of one inch, the NRC is 0.90. Coupled with its attractive finish and inexpensive application cost, SonaSpray "fc" has proven to be the premier choice for acoustical control in facilities like schools.
